Firmness and Feel

How Firm Is Saatva Classic? Saatva Classic?

Saatva Classic Saatva Classic has three varying levels of firmness: Plush Soft, Luxury Firm and Firm. The answer to this question depends on personal experience and conditions. However, if you’d like to know about it firsthand, we’ve put each of the three Saatva Classic versions to the test to see how it performs on our scale of firmness which ranges from 1 to 10.

We started the experiment off with The Plush Soft mattress, which we’ve rated 3 out of 10. What we’ve seen right from the bat is how it was extremely comfortable sleeping sideways facing the pillow top. We felt like we were getting the body hug by this model of the Saatva Classic thanks to its soft foundation when compared to other foundations. But, the more flexible feel may not translate well for those who sleep flat – either on the stomach or the back. Wirecutter, Saatva

Next , we’ve got the Firm variant that is a stark opposite to Plus Soft in terms of materials and rigidity. We barely felt our bodies sink into the mattress – the model certainly does live up to its name! This is particularly great for those who sleep flat on their backs or stomach since it provides more visible support. Certain people might have problems regarding sleeping on the side. However, we give this rating a solid 8/10.

When it came to this Luxury Firm version one of the initial things we noticed was how soft it was on the top of the pillow. The coils, meanwhile, which hold the mattress together are more firm, which makes this version of Saatva mixed in terms of design. In this case, as we lay on our backs and slept, we not only receive the correct amount of sinking, but also the support that we required. The same could be said when sleeping on your stomach, but how about side sleeping? Based on your personal experiences, it can be hit-or-miss. That being said we rate the Luxury Firm mattress a 6.5 out of 10 on the scale of firmness.

Testing with Varying Body Weights

Apart from the firmness test We’ve also analyzed how different body weights react sleeping on three variations that comprise the Saatva Classic. The first is The Plush Soft mattress. Made from a less sturdy coil foundation and an even soft pillow top is no wonder that it’s been popular with light weights. People who weigh 130 to 200 pounds might appreciate the body hugging and sinking feel that comes with the Plush Soft, but heavyweights might find them to be an issue. Wirecutter, Saatva

The Firm mattress may be too stiff for people that weigh under 175 pounds, but when you weigh a lot over that, this version is likely to be the best alternative. With a sturdier foundation throughout the mattress, the Firm model offers much more reliable support when it comes to sleeping on the stomach or back, especially among heavyweights. People who weigh less may find lying on their bed a bit uncomfortable, with no soft foam surface to alleviate this.

In the case of this Luxury Firm mattress, most of its features are adequate to cover a wide range of body weights. If you’re either someone who weighs 130lbs or 250 pounds, you will feel a sense of peace and ease while sleeping on the back with this kind of mattress. Stomach sleepers may enjoy too, but it may require extra support for heavier folks. In terms of side sleeping it’s usually suitable for all body weights, but it’s somewhat of a gamble.

Performance

What is the way that the Saatva Classic fare in terms of performance? From motion transfer to durability and even how it behaves during intimate moments, we delved deeper to determine its capabilities. These these are our findings!

Motion Isolation and Transfer

The Saatva is not the best in motion isolation compared to other hybrid mattresses. The foam layer that makes up the mattress is less than half an inch, however the mattress still manages to absorb an impressive amount of motion due to its high-tech fiber fill. Two of the more firm options might not be effective in separating motions. However, the Plush Soft variant, however, fares a little better when compared to.

In a marriage and you’re looking forward to a mattress where one of you moves and the other doesn’t even notice then you should consider the Saatva Classic may not be the best. As we tried it for motion transfers and we noticed that one of our team members slowly lost focus as the other member started doing movements, ranging from minimal to moderate and eventually high-intensity. Innerspring mattresses are known for their poor absorption of motion and the Saatva is made up of innerspring parts. It may as well be an unsuitable mattress, especially for those who sleep lightly who is easily disturbed.

Pressure Relief

Pressure relief refers to the mattress’s ability to ease out the tension felt at the body’s pressure points. We evaluated the Saatva’s tension relief levels by placing the map of pressure on its surface. After receiving the results, it’s been discovered that the mattress in three different firmnesses, gives excellent pressure relief in the back. In terms of hip and shoulder points the relief can differ based on a variety of variables, such as firmness level, personal circumstance, and the weight. Wirecutter, Saatva

Temperature Control

Its Saatva Classic mattress may be many things, but we’re able to say that it’s one of the best with incredible cooling capabilities. The mattress has two layers of the spring coil, one of which is pockets. The structure allows air to circulate throughout the mattress, eventually cooling those who normally rest hot. Not only is it able to cool down temperatures and keep them cool, but the top of the pillow’s cover is made from organic cotton, making the Saatva Classic more breathable than other hybrid mattresses made of memory foam. This is the ideal cooling mattress for people living in near-tropical conditions, and for couples who, when they sleep together, heat the bed more quickly than a single person.

Edge Support

Edge support is the measure of the strength of the edges of the mattress stand up to. For the Saatva Classic, the edges are incredibly strong. Upon testing, we ruled that they’re sturdy enough to allow individuals to lie on their edges without having to worry too much about sinkage, sagging or falling off the mattress. This is caused by a foam encasement that’s secured around the coil layers within the mattress. The durability can differ based on the firmness levels of the Saatva. Couples for instance, may not feel too much sinking when they choose between the Firm or Luxe Firm choices, but might be able to feel a little discomfort along the edges with those who choose the Plush Soft. Also, those who are heavier will feel more sinkage than lighter ones.

Sex

When you are with your spouse and are both sexually active it is crucial to find the right mattress that responds well when it comes to sharing intimate moments. This is where the Saatva Classic comes in, with a strong combination of both the ability to respond and friction, making it designed for a variety of sexual actions. The top of the pillow conforms to the body when in to the bed’s surface, while the innerspring foundation causes the mattress to bounce enough to allow for movements, but not too loud to produce the annoying squeaking sound. The strong edge support allows couples to take full advantage of the whole space of Saatva. Although the Plush Soft comfort level may provide a little sexual traction but it did not feel as comfortable in comparison to its more robust counterparts.

Off-gassing

The Saatva Classic is made out of synthetic foam. But the thing that sets it apart from the rest is that it doesn’t occupy a large portion in the bed. This means that it doesn’t smell as bad after the purchase and delivery. As we were receiving the Saatva mattresses to test we noticed that instead of the usual cardboard box people from the delivery company came in to set the mattress for us. We also inspected whether it emits less of the usual “fresh mattress smell” as compared to other mattresses, which went away quite quickly. This could be due to how it was constructed. Wirecutter, Saatva

Ease of Movement

The Saatva has been proven to have a greater ease of movement than other hybrid mattresses, due to the intriguingly unique combination of innerspring and polyfoam used as its structural foundation. The bed sticks with the shape of the user as they lay on the floor and then returns to its original form quickly when they get off of it. To contrast, mattresses that have the top of memory foam are shaped to fit the body as usual, but the feeling of being ‘trapped in comfort is stronger and makes it difficult for the user to leave.

Noise

Innerspring beds have made a bad rep through the years for their irritating noisesthat gradually become worse upon continuous use. The Saatva Classic, on the other hand, does not meet the criteria of this. We’ve already mentioned that the mattress’s core is an encasement of foam that’s wrapped around the coil systems. This not only offers solid support along the edges, but also reduces the sound that coils normally produce. We tried shifting positions and moving around on the bed, we noticed how there was less noise, squeak and buzz produced. However, since it is the Saatva mattress rests on coils you can’t count on the quiet capability to last forever.

Durability

After we’ve had the chance to try out all the performance tests on Saatva Classic, we can conclude that it is a great mattress. Saatva Classic mattress, the only thing we need to consider is these questions: “How durable is the Saatva? What is the length of time it will be able for to stand the test of time?” Considering the high-grade quality of the material and structure and how well it performs when it comes to comfort, relief and motion, the Saatva is expected to be sturdy enough to last approximately 7-10 years.

Materials

The Saatva Classic is composed of at minimum four layers each of which has distinctive capabilities. However, when they’re taken together, they make an extremely durable, strong and bouncy solid hybrid mattress that is suitable for any use. Let’s have a closer review of the various elements and components that compose the Saatva bed.

Layer 1 Layer 1: A soft and breathable Surface

The initial layer is three inches of thick Euro pillow top used to serve as the bed’s sleep surface. It’s comprised of a combination of fiberfill, polyfoam and Dacron to provide a cushioned and comfortable area for you to lay down on. It is then quilted with an exclusive Lumbar Zone quilting design that is designed to provide much-needed pressure relief for the hips and back. Organic cotton fabric is used to cover the pillow’s top surface. It is not only comfortable and breathable, but it also comes with antibacterial qualities.

Layer 2: A Combination Foam to Provide Enhanced Lumbar Support

Across all three firmness levels An inch-thick support foam is placed beneath the first layer to create a much more enhanced support for the lumbar region. The foam is made up of the following majority of the mattress is composed of polyfoam, while the remainder is made from memory foam. It is strategically placed in the middle of the mattress, allowing your back and shoulders to align without producing any form of discomfort. Wirecutter, Saatva

This 4-inch-thick surface of individually wrapped micro coils made of foam is flexible enough to bind to various body shapes and movements that change constantly. It also allows for breezy air circulation, which keeps the sleeper cooled and away from getting too hot.

Layer 4: Sturdy Foundation Core

Each layer is held by the solid hourglass steel coils beneath the three layers. Customers can choose between two sizes: a 4-inch layer for mattresses that measure 11.5″ or 7-inch layers for 14.5″ beds. These core coils aid the foam-pocketed coils to produce an increased airflow system within the Saatva and the high-quality components are strong enough to withstand the weight of heavier people and objects.
